TORONTO, Ontario (February 27, 2024) – It’s the legendary SUV – reborn, and ready for adventure. The Toyota Land Cruiser returns to Canada with a thrilling combination of capability, reliability, and style – equally at home on rugged trails or slick city streets and available in four exciting grades.
“When Toyota came to Canada in 1964, the Land Cruiser was one of our three models and as Toyota’s longest-running nameplate, it helped our company take its first steps on what has become a remarkable journey in this country,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “Now, after a 35-year hiatus, we’re thrilled to bring back the Land Cruiser to Canada – as a high-quality off-roader that’s designed to help a wider range of Canadians embark on new adventures.”
The 2024 Land Cruiser was designed from the outset to be authentic, reliable, timeless, and professional – and these qualities are evident in every detail.
To craft a new Land Cruiser, Toyota designers and engineers started with performance and capability, which is why the Land Cruiser leverages Toyota’s TNGA-F global truck platform as its foundation. This gives Land Cruiser the strength it needs to withstand punishing off-road conditions while also conferring impressive ride comfort and on-road manners.
Every Land Cruiser is exclusively electrified, equipped with Toyota’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain as standard. This system is built around a 2.4L intercooled turbocharged engine connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission via an electric motor in the bell housing. This design offers maximum performance – enabling the Land Cruiser to achieve 326 combined horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, while ensuring excellent fuel consumptions. The Land Cruiser is rated at 10.7/9.5/10.1 L/100 km (City/Highway/Combined). With a trailer hitch standard on all grades, the Land Cruiser can tow up to 6,000 lbs.
To this, engineers added an impressive package of Toyota’s state-of-the-art off-roading technologies. All 2024 Land Cruisers feature full-time four-wheel-drive with a centre locking differential, electronically-controlled two-speed transfer case, an electronic locking rear differential, and automatic limited slip centre differential. These features are enhanced with additional handling and control technologies, including standard CRAWL Control, Downhill Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Control, and a three-setting Drive Mode Select system. Higher grades feature additional technologies such as Multi-Terrain Select and Multi-Terrain Monitor.
The new Land Cruiser features a newly-developed double-wishbone front suspension, plus a multi-link rear suspension with coil springs. Electric power steering delivers superior steering feel, while disc brakes on all four wheels provide ample stopping power.
The Land Cruiser conveys its capabilities while honouring its heritage with a squared off body profile, short front overhang, and a lower beltline that provides superior outward visibility.
Open the doors, and the Land Cruiser welcomes adventurer to a generous cabin loaded with comfort and convenience features. Smart design choices place controls and gauges within easy reach and sightline for the driver. All models feature multi-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel on a tilting/telescoping column, and USB charging points.
The Land Cruiser puts intuitive technology at one’s fingertips – and voice. Every model features the Toyota Multimedia system – a bundle of smart connectivity technologies that keeps drivers informed and safe while simplifying their lives behind the wheel. The system integrates wirelessly with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and features Toyota’s newest interface, which improves interaction between people and vehicle through sight, touch, and voice. Many functions may be controlled via the touch screen via the same gestures used on mobile phone screens. Other technologies include Toyota’s Smart Key System with Push Button Start and an anti-theft alarm system with engine immobilizer.
Every Land Cruiser also comes with an impressive package of safety features, headlined by Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 – the newest configuration of Toyota’s suite of active safety technologies and capabilities that supports driver awareness and decision making to help reduce the potential for accidents. Other standard safety features include a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a backup camera with camera washer, eight airbags, rain-sensing wipers, and Intuitive Parking Assist with Auto Braking.
