TORONTO, ONTARIO – JANUARY 5th, 2022 – Elevate the everyday and make the most of every moment, with one of Canada’s most popular vehicles. The Toyota RAV4 family – 16 configurations covering a range of powertrains and trim levels – is even better for 2022, with styling upgrades and package enhancements across the lineup. Whether it’s the comfort and versatility of the classic RAV4… the go-anywhere adventure of the trail-ready RAV4 editions… the sporty sophistication of the RAV4 Hybrid… or the ultimate power and efficiency of the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid… there’s a RAV4 for every Canadian driver.
“The 2022 Toyota RAV4 family is ready to help Canadians explore and do more – with a broad choice of models featuring unique combinations of style, features, and capabilities,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “From family drives, to weekend getaways, to epic vacations, the RAV4 delivers the driving fun, comfort, and versatility that help Canadians make the most of modern life – with the safety and efficiency that Canadians demand.”
Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), the 2022 Toyota RAV4 family expresses an energetic design highlighted by a chiseled appearance and powerful stance. TNGA contributes more than just great looks: RAV4’s long wheelbase and wide track contribute to a stable, confident drive, while short overhangs and high ground clearance help RAV4 tackle almost any terrain. Standard fittings include power adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, and LED daytime running lights. New this year, most models receive one of two newly-designed projector LED headlamp packages.
RAV4’s rugged yet sophisticated exterior transitions to a refined interior characterized by a spacious feel, a harmonious layout, and accommodating features. Materials, cabin design, and colour combinations further define each model, from sporty hybrids to go-anywhere off-roaders. Fun and functional, the RAV4 family is also amazingly versatile with 60/40 split folding rear seats that convert the five-adult cabin to a cargo hauler ready for any weekend getaway.
New for 2022, The RAV4 XSE gets a bold new colour in Cavalry Blue with a black roof. In fact, Cavalry Blue will also make its way on the new SE Hybrid grade, as well as the existing TRD Off-Road. There are quite a few updates to the wheels as well. LE Hybrid, XLE, and XLE Hybrid get a new colour for their wheels, as does the Trail grade. While the XLE Hybrid and Limited Hybrid get a new design, as does the XSE Hybrid. Lastly, XLE grades and above get updated headlamps– both for style and for capability improvement. New LED foglamps are being introduced for Limited, Trail and TRD Off Road. And the XSE Hybrid gets the super sleek vertical lights that debuted on the XSE Prime in 2021.
Under the hood, the RAV4 lineup provides a range of choices to suit every taste and budget.
RAV4 models are built around a powerful and efficient 203 peak horsepower 2.5L Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front wheel drive models achieve a combined city/highway fuel efficiency rating of 7.9L / 100km while all-wheel-drive editions fare almost as well, at 8.2L / 100km.
RAV4 Hybrid models feature the Toyota Hybrid Drive – the most popular and proven electrified power train on the planet. This system, custom-configured for the RAV4 Hybrid, is built around Atkinson cycle 2.5L Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine coupled to a continuously variable transmission. The result is 219 Net Horsepower and a combined city/highway fuel efficiency rating of just 6.0L / 100km.
RAV4 Prime models feature Toyota’s plug-in hybrid powertrain technology, delivering a range of almost 1,000 km with a full charge and a full tank. The RAV4 Prime enhances the RAV4 Hybrid – adding more powerful motor-generators, a high-capacity Lithium Ion battery, and other powertrain upgrades. The result is a vehicle that breaks ground as the most powerful and quickest RAV4 in history, while also being the most fuel-efficient. The vehicle’s plug-in hybrid system generates 302 system horsepower and rockets the RAV4 Prime from 0-96 kph in just 5.7 seconds, making it the second-fastest vehicle in the Toyota lineup after the GR Supra. The powertrain also delivers electric, on-demand all-wheel-drive and a towing rating of 1,134 kg (2,500 lbs). More than just a power source, the plug-in hybrid powertrain’s high-capacity battery is positioned in the vehicle to help lower the centre of gravity while enhancing driving stability. With an electric vehicle range of 68 km, the RAV4 Prime has the best range of any plug-in hybrid currently on the market. Combined with a top speed of 135 kph in EV mode, many daily trips can be made without using a drop of gas. Meantime, the 6.6 kW on-board charger shaves recharging time down to well below three hours on 240V. When required, the RAV4 Prime switches automatically and seamlessly to standard hybrid powertrain mode, combining its Atkinson-cycle gas engine and powerful electric motor-generators to deliver driving fun, impressive efficiency, and no range anxiety.
All models feature an impressive bundle of powerful yet intuitive technologies, including touchscreen-equipped display audio systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a multi-information display. Connected Services by Toyota bring powerful communications services to the RAV4. Models featuring Audio Plus with Remote feature Remote Connect, Safety Connect, and Service Connect. Models with Premium Audio Plus with Remote & Nav add Embedded Navigation with Embedded Traffic and Weather, Destination Assist, and Map Updates.
A long list of standard safety systems starts with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 – a bundle of active safety technologies that help extend the driver’s awareness and ability to avoid collisions, or mitigate their effect.
